Earth, how does it compare? I have heard it called many names, the Big Blue Marble, Third Rock from the Sun, and Earth. This planet is a very special planet. Let us take a closer look at Earth first and then compare it to the other planets. Earth is the only planet in the solar system known to have a life form inhabiting it. There are many reasons for life being able to survive on Earth. The planet Earth is the only planet with enough oxygen to sustain our form of life. There is also enough water to foster life. With the ozone layer the Earth shields us from the harmful rays of the sun and other radiation. Since we live on the planet this makes it easily accessible to study. There are some places of Earth that we can not physically reach but we can monitor these places in other ways. For instance consider the interior of the Earth. Even though we can not access it we can still monitor what is happening there.
