As a preacher of religion Jesus had to help people understand what is was. He told his stories in parables and allegories.
A parable is a simple story with a simple meaning. It has one central point of teaching and the meaning of it is clear. The meaning isn’t explained and people are left to think about it. A parable relates to real life and the events and characters are also drawn from real life.
A time when Jesus used a parable whilst preaching was when he told the story of ‘A lamp under a bowl’ Jesus says “Does anyone ever bring a lamp and put it under a bowl or bed? Doesn’t he put it on the lamp stand? Whatever is hidden will be brought out into the open and whatever is covered will become uncovered. Jesus means that the Kingdom of God may be difficult to see now but soon it will be on its way.
Jesus also uses allegories which are more complex, the message is hidden in a type of code where one character or event represents another. Everything has a meaning and may be told in a make-believe world. This story has to be thought about to be uncovered its meaning.
