Of the many plot twists, character shifts, and dramatized battles of conflicting schemes present in Shakespeare�s Hamlet, the most essential and frequent theme of the play seems to be the occurrence of death and its precedence. With careful analysis, one can see that the majority of the deaths that occur in the play happen in a spiritual way before actually occurring physically. It also seems that in the tragedy of each death, there usually seems to lay some blame in Hamlet. Moreover, while Hamlet seems to be the root of many fatalities, death also seems to surround his life in every way. It is not life that one first sees when opening Hamlet, but rather a commencement that unravels into a constant theme of death, and more specifically murder. However, while the most apparent fatalities that occur in the play are physical, it can be sad that some characters die in a spiritual sense long before their true earthly death.
