There are many inequalities in our society and managing them in the classroom is both challenging and daunting. Our society and our schools are becoming more racially and ethnically diverse. The numbers of white students no longer dominate our classrooms. Still, whites dominate in high end jobs, wages, housing and education. The white dominant culture is everywhere from billboards to television to textbooks. Inequalities in wealth, food, health and housing are unequivocally related to race and ethnicity. These things, or the lack thereof, directly impact the achievement gap.
