The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is a public, coeducational, research university located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, United States. Also known as The University of North Carolina, Carolina, North Carolina, or simply UNC, is the oldest institution in the University of North Carolina System. Although not the first public university to be chartered, it was the first to open to students, and the only public university in America to graduate students in the eighteenth century. Academically, the University is among the United States' best, consistently ranking in the top five public universities in the nation.
