The comparisons of ‘Cousin Kate’ and ‘The Seduction’. Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Even though 'The Seduction' and 'Cousin Kate' were written around a century apart, many of the ideas about love are the same. Both poems talk about the differences between male and female attitudes towards love, how women or girls are more easily led and that the physical side of love is important. However over the years people’s attitudes have changed towards love and sex. Today’s society has become more acceptable to the physical side of love. Seduction is the act of persuading someone to have sexual intercourse. The poems both contain rejection rather than a ‘fairytale ending’ where they are both happily married, which shows neither of them are happy poems. The characters are betrayed by different things as the poems both include a lot of betrayal. 'Cousin Kate' is written in first person. While it seems that the person is thinking about her past, it allows Rossetti to ask questions which make the reader wonder what has happened or will happen next, being written in the first person makes this work well.
