Human Rights of Drug Addicts The use of drugs has become a very controversial topic in society today. In general, addicts show a direct link between taking drugs and suffering from their effects. Drug addicts show a high rate in relation to criminal behavior and recurrent criminal offenses. Without help these addicts show evidence of continued harm to society and themselves. The availability of drug rehab facilities either by volunteered admittance locations or treatment in prison is necessary to stop this devilish cycle. In an article discussing more drug rehab availability in prisons civil rights lawyer Michael Bott stated, "They in fact become a greater risk to society in terms of re-offending and to us their citizens in society." Correction research shows how bad the issue is- 83% of inmates have a problem with alcohol or drugs and 80% admit they used drugs or alcohol just before committing crimes (ONE News, 2007). I feel that having more rehab treatment available is not so much an issue of the human rights of addicts, but the rights of society. This could be compared to ......
