The Sex Rules We all remember growing up and being told by our parents that we could not do things because we were a boy or a girl. �Boys play with trucks not dolls! Girls wear dresses not Jeans!� The pressures placed on the way each sex should/should not look and act are incredible. These social pressures to identify with what a boy or girl should be do shape and define, often times against what could be considered healthy, who a person becomes and how they will behave for the rest of their lives. It is in my opinion that gender roles are social constructs that if abolished would serve all future generations to be freed from social pressures concerning how one should or should not act due to their gender. How many times were we as young boys allowed to buy a Barbie in the toy store? Most men would agree that they were never allowed to have such a toy. Their parents would respond that those toys were for girls. Perhaps their parents would also become so upset with the idea of their son playing with a Barbie doll, that they would then decide to cart him off to therapy claim......
