Considered “a woman ahead of her time” due to her unconventional behavior and writing style, Kate Chopin’s once rejected pieces of literature have become a timeless collection of valuable evidence documenting a period of history in which women faced enormous restrain in their relationships. Chopin’s lack of understanding for how women allowed this to go on, as well as her exposure to the strength of a woman inspired many of her writings. The characterization used in Chopin's The Story of an Hour shows the powerful impact of Kate's upbringing in a female dominated house hold.
