��What is your typing ability?� is the first question asked when a woman graduate begins looking for a job� said Shirley Chisholm in �I�d Rather Be Black Than Female�, a look on prejudice between women and blacks in political positions; focusing on harsher acceptance towards women. Chisholm thinks being a woman is more of a struggle than being black. Women are thought better to posses a home life or a child barer than holding a high position in Congress. Due to this universal notion, when educated women search for a job the employer�s initial thought is a secretary standing and nothing more. Shirley Chisholm believes otherwise. In 1963 she ran for the New York State Assembly seat and won her spot, being the first black woman in Congress. From then on she has been spreading her ideas on why more women should be in politics. She believes that women have a particular trait to contribute to politics. Although a woman in politics is rather a new idea in society, it is more commonly accepted in our paradigm.
