Anyone who has read Homer�s The Iliad knows of the Trojan War. However, the actual Trojan War took place nothing like the one in The Iliad. Historians are not even sure if a Trojan War took place, but most believe that some kind of battle did occur around that time period (1200 B.C.). Historians lean towards this inference because there is evidence that a war took place in present-day Turkey, which is where Ilium once stood. Ilium was the Latin name for Troy, which is where the word Iliad was derived. Achilles is the main character in The Iliad. Growing up in Greece, children would listen to the marvels and adventures of Achilles. He was similar to current day superheroes such as Batman, Superman, The Hulk, and other outstanding figures. Back then there was not much to do for entertainment, so storytelling was a prominent pastime; Achilles was the talk of the town. Achilles was born in Thessalia, Greece. He was also the son of Peleus and Thetis. Peleus was the king of the Myrmidons and Thetis was said to have been both a goddess and a sea nymph. Achilles was more mortal than godly.......
