I chose to do my emergent curriculum on the topic of wings and flight because I noticed that this interest was would be a good way for children to learn about nature and things that fly. I was a little apprehensive to do this topic because I thought it might be too abstract for a group of young children, but then I remembered a video I saw in one of my classes on Hilltop Children�s Center. I know they have video documentation on many of their projects; however it was a documentation on wings that was particularly interesting. From the information we gathered from the Desired Results, I noticed that Teddy, Maria and Tim needed some fine motor work while others did quite well, so I thought proposing a wire sculpture project of wings might give a chance to develop fine motor skills. This would also give the children who are more advanced in this area a chance to develop socially by helping the teacher and the others. I would start out with a discussion and research in books.
