Genocide of Aborigines? Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Genocide: A deliberate and systematic mass murder by order or instruction or forcing an ethic, racial, religious, or even political group to live in conditions which might lead to liquidation of that group. Is genocide an appropriate term to characterize the treatment of Aborigines on the Port Phillip Frontier? I am not an aborigine, I was not there, but I believe that genocide is a very strong and inapt word to describe the treatment of the aboriginal people on the Port Phillip Frontier. Although this may be the case, the mass killing of any group of people is wrong. We learn that in the 18 years between 1835 and 1853, there were 8093 deaths from different causes. The common being disease; the aborigines had lived in isolation for over 40,000 years and had very little diseases, the ones they did get were all animal related. When the white settlers arrived, they brought diseases with them, they didn’t know it but the common cold that they all contract is not only dangerous to them, it is deadly.
