FOR • It is morally correct choice to help the environment through such an initiative. • B AGAINST • The Kyoto Protocol does not bound all countries the same way, and hence this lack of uniformity may give some countries unfair advantages over another economically. • If one country fails to follow through on the agreement, it will negate another countries efforts. Australia has not ratified the Kyoto Protocol, because current Liberal Prime Minister John Howard believes that ratification of the protocol would not be in Australia’s best interest. The Australian delegation has argued that, if they were to ratify the protocol, there would be Australian job loss, due to the “closing down” of many coal power plants. They also argue, that if Australia were indeed to ratify the protocol, and match the guidelines, their accomplishments would be negated, as China within 12 months would have produced such a large amount of pollution that Australia’s efforts would be in vain......
