Comparison of Vygotsky and Piaget Cognition is the process where the brain is reasoning, perceiving, involved in thinking and mental activities, such as attention, memory and problem solving. This essay will be focusing on comparing and contrasting the theories of Piaget and Vygotsky, who were both constructivists. Thomas H atal (1997) P106 Both Piaget and Vygotsky agreed that ‘children's cognitive development took place in stages’, Chandler J (2001) P.149. However they were well known by different styles of thinking. Piaget was the first to reveal that children reason and think differently at different periods in their lives. Piaget believed that all children progress through four major developmental stages of cognitive development.
