Hoover vs. FDR Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Though Herbert Hoover and Franklin D. Roosevelt both had the ultimate goal of stabilizing the economy and pulling America out of the Great Depression the way each chose to act upon this goal was drastically different. Herbert Hoover believed strongly that the government should not directly or indirectly provide relief for the individual. Instead, fearing the centralization of government, Hoover encouraged American individuals to endure the Depression using true American initiative and encouraged local governments as well as charities to take the role of aiding individuals in this time of need. Roosevelt on the other hand believed in the exact opposite. He fervently believed that the federal government should do all it could to help its citizens in this time of need. Whether it be through the creation of the New Deal programs or direct funding to state governments Roosevelt believed in using the full power of government to aid American individuals.
