When we say that crime is functional for society we mean that for many people just to function within society they are forced to crime. There are many people who depend on crime to make a living. There is the poor minimum wage worker who struggles pay check to pay check, who eventually has to resort to crime just so they can get by, our It could be the poor single mother who has to sell drugs just to put food on the table. Society pretty much forces the poor minimum wage worker and the single mother to have to resort to crime. A man who was just released severing a jail term for drug charges re-enters society. The man will go from job interview to job interview in search for job opportunities, maybe again to help feed and support his family, but job interview after job interview he is denied because of his criminal record that he now has for serving a jail term on drug charges. Now this man is again left with nothing, but to resort to crime. From the moment this man was convicted of a crime, society sentenced him to a life of crime.
