Analyse the importance of narrative structure in ONE or TWO gothic texts. Narrative structure and technique is an important factor of any novel, however when critiquing a novel of the Gothic genre it can be considered imperative. Within her novel, Frankenstein, Mary Shelly could be seen to be relating her narrative to her contemporary society, attempting to project her views of society subtly throughout her tale. A similar narrative technique is used within Robert Louis Stevenson�s novel The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde; both authors use the narrative within their novels not only to aide the progression of their story but to explore their views of society in the 1800�s, often through mirroring their content in language, structure and form to reiterate their point. Frankenstein�s creature has developed into a popular horror figure over the years; Shelly�s presentation of the creature is ambiguous, one is unsure whether or not the creature is good or evil.
