Women faced many hardships in attempt to gain equal rights and civil liberties that men had during this time. The struggles that women faced seemed to make them prisoners in a society were only men had freedoms and voice in the economy. This story was published during the late nineteenth century when woman had no freedoms in society and were strictly enforced to attend to the household. Women were mainly responsible for domestic functions such as maintaining the family home, childbirth, and to follow the orders issued to them by their superiors. Men had a much more active role in the economy since the beginning of time. They had the right to get an education, hold jobs and they made all the necessary decisions.
