Hawk Roosting Some poets like to link the behaviour of animals to that of humans, a classic example of this is �Hawk Roosting� by Ted Hughes. Hawk Roosting looks to be about a Hawk and its behaviour when in fact Ted Hughes has hidden the fact that it is about a dictator, a fascist, someone lives on power. We know this as Ted Hughes said after he wrote this: �I had someone like Hitler in mind� Each line or stanza in �Hawk Roosting� is linked with Hitler and a hawk. The poem opens with: �I sit in the top of the wood, my eyes closed� this is a very interesting opening line as it isn�t only describing a Hawk at the top of the wood but it is about Hitler thinking he is at the very top of the world. He has his eyes closed as he seems to be at the very top, not because he has done something good for the world but because he is trying to make a new Germany by wiping out everything/everyone that is not perfect. This immediately shows an obsession for power between both the Hawk and Hitler. �Inaction, no falsifying dream�, this line is very effective as right away in the poem ......
