A comparison paper of Andre Dubus's Killings and William Faulkner's A Rose For Emily Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

One of the most heinous crimes that an individual can commit is murder, but is there every a time that murder can be justified? In Andre Dubus’s “Killings,” Matt Fowler avenges the murder of his son Frank by killing the man that murdered him, Richard Stout. In William Faulkner’s “A Rose for Emily” the main character, Emily, murders the man that she planned on marrying after she realized he planned on leaving her. Although judicially there is no excuse for committing murder, is there ever a moral ground that gives on individual the right to kill another? When “Killings” opens Fowler is burying his son Frank. After the burial, Fowler takes to upon himself to plan and kill his son’s murderer. The story is basically about revenge for the untimely death of his son. There is a plot to kill the murderer of Mr. Fowler’s son with no thought of what the consequences could be. This goes to show that revenge is something that can overpower all logic. Mr. Fowler could not conceive that someone could be let out of jail as a murderer and walk the streets, so he took it into his own hands ......
