Pathophysiology S.M. is a 74 yr. old Female admitted 2-14-07 with a Hx of CHF, a fib, PVD, DM, and hypotension. Her admitting DX is ESRD in which she receives dialysis 3x per week, as well as left Tibia and left Fibula fractures. Patient apparently fell after missing a step while walking down stairs. Patient was brought to ER and was complaining of pain in the left knee. X-ray revealed fractured left tibia and fibula in which she underwent surgical correction for. During hospital stay, S.M.�s blood pressure dropped significantly therefore was transferred to ICU in which she is now receiving treatment for. ESRD is a progressive, irreversible deterioration in renal function in which the bodies ability to maintain metabolic and fluid and electrolyte balance fails resulting in retention of urea, and nitrogenous wastes in the blood. Labs values for S.M. were as follows Bun-42, Creatinin- 4.4 which are both high and indicate decreased renal function.
