The United States is a country where all are welcome and very few are turned away. Each year since this beautiful country has been established, more and more people have traveled from all over the world to live in a country that offers unlimited freedom and provides equal rights to all. Due to the United States’ perpetual growth in population, the number of students in the American school systems has rapidly increased and continues to gain additional students annually. “The number of elementary and high school students in 2000 fell just short of the all-time high of 49 million reached in 1970” (Ingram 26). Because of the rise in students, the ethnic backgrounds of the children has also become more widely spread. The fact that American classrooms have become so ethnically diverse, a new course of action has arisen, involving history classes and social studies curriculum.
