The detrimental effects of war are widespread and far-reaching. The author of Divine Wind outlines in detail the devastating effects of war in a society. The tensions in a multicultural society are even more exacerbated. There are many factors which impact on how much tension is created such as the Government�s attitude and policies towards the minority racial groups. Disher illustrates such tension by the incident at the tin walled cinema, where an indigenous Australian by the name of Derby Boxer was distracting the other viewers by being a restless drunk in the cinema. People in the cinema were complaining. The usher glanced at the three adolescents in distaste. This expression demonstrates the usher�s disapproval of inter-racial mixing. Mitsy, Alice and Hart carried Derby outside the cinema. On their way of taking Derby to his home, they came across Ida their mother. She questioned them on their association with Derby and scarcely made eye contact with Mitsy or Derby. By this very act, she de-humanised them.
