Every person has their own image of that ideal person that they wish they could be. Some may even take it to the next level and superficially act that way with acquaintances they meet everyday. There is however a fine line between occasionally pretending to have qualities one wishes they had and constantly playing the role of the perfect persona. This act, along with other indicators, is identified as narcissistic personality disorder. An article entitled �Narcissism and self-esteem� in the Harvard Mental Health Letter discusses the various signs, treatments, and views of the narcissistic personality. The article begins with the definition of the narcissistic personality, giving specific examples along with generalizations about the majority of disorder possessors. While narcissists tend to lack empathy for others and only care about themselves and their own achievements, the problem really exists because of the lack of self esteem the person has for themselves.
