NAACP The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, or NAACP, was founded on February 12, 1909. It was created to work on behalf of the rights of minorities including Native Americans, Asian Americans, African Americans, and Jews. The NAACP has advocated nonviolent protests against discrimination. The efforts of the NAACP were directed towards lynching, which is an execution without due process of law. There were 71 lynchings in 1911, and 63 of the victims were black. The NAACP�s headquarters are located in Baltimore, Maryland. Some of the people involved in the founding of the NAACP were W.E.B. Dubois, and Ida Wells-Barnett, both of which were African Americans, Henry Moscowitz, who was a Jew, William English Walling, and Mary White Ovington, who were both white. The NAACP is one of the most influential civil rights organizations in the United States. It is also one of the oldest civil rights organizations.
