Robert Browning is an author in which very few people have heard about. During his later years he was often referred to as Elizabeth Barrett�s husband. Robert Browning was born at Camberwell, London, on May 7, 1812 (Barnhart, 40). His father was a bank clerk, an artist, a scholar, an antiquarian (a collector of antiquities and valuables), and a collector of books and pictures (Robert, 1). He had a rare collection of more than 6,000 volumes written in Greek, Hebrew, French, Italian and Spanish (Robert, 1). His mother was an accomplished pianist and a devout evangelical Christian (Robert, 1). He also had no known siblings. Most of his childhood was spent studying with his numerous tutors (Robert, 1). Much of his education came from his father (Barnhart, 40). It is believed that he was already proficient at reading and writing at age 5.
