I. Introduction. In today’s business world, financial markets are made available by the financial system to allow surplus economic units to trade with deficit economic units. This is made possible through two different types of markets: Primary and secondary. In a primary market, a security is created and sold for the first time in the market place where securities are sold to investors. In a secondary market, a security has already been sold to an investor and is being traded to another investor. When securities are considered short-term, maturity of one year or less, they are traded in money markets. Should they be considered long-term securities, maturity of over one year, they are then traded in capital markets. Security exchanges are organizations which trade among investors both stocks and/or bonds. A prime example of prominent international securities is the American Stock Exchange (AMEX).
