For many people, Mount Everest is the ultimate challenge. As Jon Krakauer explains the challenge of climbing Everest in Into Thin Air, �attempting to climb Everest is an intrinsically irrational act� a triumph of desire over sensibility� (xvii). It is their life�s work to climb it, guide it, and to overall conquer it. For some people, the difficult achievement of conquering Mount Everest is the culmination of one�s life.
