For many people, Mount Everest is the ultimate challenge. As Jon Krakauer explains the challenge of climbing Everest in Into Thin Air, “attempting to climb Everest is an intrinsically irrational act– a triumph of desire over sensibility” (xvii). It is their life’s work to climb it, guide it, and to overall conquer it. For some people, the difficult achievement of conquering Mount Everest is the culmination of one’s life. In other cases, succeeding in life is the principal goal of some people. They are both difficult feats to accomplish, being extremely extensive and arduous, but are still feasible. Success, by some people’s definitions, can take an entire lifetime to attain, as can conquering Mount Everest.
Mount Everest represents a microcosm of modern humans in the sense that the actions required to climb Everest are analogous to the actions necessary to succeed in life. In climbing Everest and succeeding in the world, one must overcome many challenges and obstacles blocking their path. In addition to overcoming challenges, little steps must be taken to achieve greatness in life......
