This paper will define virtue as knowledge, according to Meno. Socrates, however, contrary to Meno�s belief describes virtue is unable to be taught due to the lack of adequate teachers. The conclusion will label virtue as a recollection of past experiences. Meno leaves us hanging between defining virtue as straight knowledge or as a kind of mysterious wisdom revealed to us by the gods without understanding. Meno�s explanation of virtue being defined as a part of education is supported by the definition of wisdom. It seems that virtue must be a kind of wisdom, which we usually assume to be one of the acquirable benefits of education. According to the previous discussion between Meno and Socrates, virtue is a good thing. Good things can only be virtue if their acquisition is accompanied by temperance, justice which is in turn guided by sense and wisdom (88D). Therefore, virtue is wisdom.
