Edgar Allan Poe, he was born January 19, 1809, Boston, Massachusetts. Poe’s father and mother were actors, and at that time they were currently members of a repertory company. Davis, who was Poe’s father, was an alcoholic. Davis had problems with his attitude, because of his drinking. He abandoned them when Poe was two years old. Within a year Elizabeth-the mother-died of tuberculosis. That was when John and Francis Allan took him in. They never adopted him officially, just took care of him. In 1826 Poe left to the University of Virginia, but less than a year came back because of gambling debts and drinking. When Poe returned his relationship with Allan had gone. In 1827 he ran away to Boston. After being in the army for a short time, Poe left to Baltimore. He went to go live with his paternal grandmother and her young daughter. The grandmother’s name was Maria Clemm and daughter, Virginia. Between 1830 and 1831 Poe left to the United States Military at West Point, then returning back to Baltimore.
