Fighting Loneliness ��Guys like us, that work on ranches, are the loneliest guys in the world. They got no family. They don�t belong no place. They come to a ranch an� work up a stake and then they go inta town and blow their stake, and the first thing you know they�re poundin� their tail on some other ranch. They ain�t got nothing to look ahead to� (14). John Steinbeck�s novel, Of Mice and Men shows that Lennie Small and George Milton in direct contrast to the other ranch workers because they had each other and dreams to look forward to, while Crooks and Curley�s wife suffered from severe loneliness. �I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you�� (Steinbeck 14). Lennie and George always had each other�s backs. Lennie may not have been the sharpest tool in the shed, but he was the reason that George wasn�t spending money on whorehouses and kept him motivated for purchasing their dream home.
