In this essay Mark Morris�s Gloria is analysed in order to arrive at an interpretation. This is achieved by setting that dance in context to Mark Morris�s development up to and beyond Gloria including the context of other dances at that time, influences on him and the context of the music and vocal chorus of Vivaldi�s Gloria. Mark Morris was born in Seattle in 1956. As a young child Morris had great musical influences from his family, although no members of his family were successful artists or musicians, they had passion. It was Bill Crittenden, Morris grandfather that had the biggest influence upon him. Acocella gives an account in her book �Mark Morris� of Morris�s childhood and family history. Acocella tells us of Morris�s Grandfather Bill Crittenden's love of dance and music, how he would attend as many Vaudeville shows as he could and then teach family and friends what he had learned.
