The Merchant of Venice-Aggressive Language Act 4 Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

English-Higher Level Aggressive language Act 4 Act Four, is about the case between Antonio and Shylock. Antonio did not pay off the money he owed Shylock, so he must pay the price. The penalty that they had agreed on was one pound of flesh taken from Antonio’s body closest to his heart. Shylock is then offered twice the amount of money owed but he refuses. He exclaims he stands for the “law” and he will have his “bond”. Portia then comes in dressed at Balthazar who was sent by Ballario to settle the case. She ends up helping to defeat Shylock which saves Antonio’s life. This scene is full of aggressive language and literary elements such as irony, symbolism, foreshadowing, hyperbole, language, conflict, climax, and characterization. The characterization of Shylock is stretched through the scene by different characters. Shylock also says things which suggests the type of person he is. In line 34, stated by the Duke, “We all expect a gentle answer, Jew.” The word gentle could be symbolic for gentile which means a person who is not a Jew. This statement is also foreshadowin......
