In Les Murray�s poem �Morse�, Murray shows us his admiration for the resourceful ingenuity the country people have. Murray portrays this theme by use of the character Bill Tuckett operating surgery with instructions through Morse Code. The language is very colloquial as Murray nostalgias when Morse Code was a main use of communication. �Morse� begins with a casual introduction to the main character. �Tuckett. Bill Tuckett.� This represents the colloquial mood for the poem and represents the simple language which is also used. �Way out back of the Outback, but he stuck it.� Murray tells us that Bill Tuckett is a bloke and the slang indicates how is very tough. Additionally, Murray uses listing to reinforce the idea of Tuckett�s toughness �heat, glare, dust and the lack of diversion or doctors.� Murray hints the �lack of doctors� to be part of the storyline because it does suit within the list.
