Imagine being mentally suffocated. Because the government felt that thinking freely was not good for the public, they limited a persons civil rights. Transcendentalism is in existence today to prevent us from injustice towards our self. According to Merriam-Webster Online, transcendentalism is a literary and philosophical movement asserting the existence of an ideal spiritual reality that transcends the empirical and scientific intuition. Thoreau�s firm beliefs of transcendentalism lead to one of the greatest movements in written history. Drummond from Inherit the Wind once said, �If the law is of such a nature that it requires you to be an agent of injustice to another, then I say, break the law� (Lawrence and Lee, Inherit the Wind). Thoreau�s philosophy of government and justice has much to do with Drummond�s quote. Thoreau�s attitude toward government is not the same as an average American. He believed that no one should stop a person from what they believe in, even if it means breaking the law. Thoreau heartily accepted the motto, �That government is best which governs......
