Alexander the Great Alexander succeeded his father Philip II and was approved by the army to become King of Macedonia. He quickly became one of the most successful military commanders in history. Before his death, he conquered most of the world known to the ancient Greeks, and expanded the ancient map to the edges. I have found that one of Alexander�s less famous battles to actually be more interesting than some of the more prominent examples. The siege of Tyre also serve as another, if not better, example of the vast military intellect that was Alexander. At the Siege of Tyre , Alexander encountered circumstances and situations that he had not previously encountered and therefore had no precedents on which to act. Even the enormous differences between the Siege of Tyre and the Battle of Issus prove how versatile Alexander was as a militarily commander. Alexander�s rise to prominence was not unaided.
