Carmen Helin 83508069 Mid Term Think Paper; Substance Abuse Counselor Drug abuse has long been a social problem in the North America which has been increasing dramatically the past 20 years. So for one to work as a substance abuse counselor they must first take the necessary steps that they need to work with cliental from such diverse backgrounds. In this paper I will discuss the steps necessary for one to become a culturally competent counselor, plus the joys and challenges faced working with such a diverse cliental. Every person uses different drugs for different reasons which can vary from substance to substance, person to person or from occasion to occasion.
