During the 1920’s art was a big part of the cultural world. Numerous styles of art such as, impressionism, expressionism, jugendstil and art nouveau, all had an impact on the art world in the early 1900’s. William Colegate, in his book, Canadian Art : its origin and development, states that Canadian artists brought these new types of art to the attention of the cultural world by their unique artistic style and painting of the Canadian Landscape. These Canadian artists became known as the group of seven which brought Canadian art to the attention of the world.1 Specifically in the 1920’s, art was appreciated by many people. They found it to be a distraction from the realities of the Canadian lifestyle. Initially, impressionism, expressionism, jugendstil and art nouveau had a large impact on the group of seven.
