John Donne was very special among all the other poets formed in a group called Metaphysical poets. Donne’s life is characterized by contradictions. The endless tension is apparent in his poems and it made Donne’s poetry original, unique, and unforgettable. The fight of spiritual and physical love in his poetry represents this contradiction. It is apparent that the fight does not have a winner. Nonetheless, this fight enriches his poetry.
