Loneliness and Dreams in ‘Of Mice and Men’
In the following essay I’m going to talk about two of the major themes in John Steinbeck’s novel ‘Of Mice and Men’, loneliness and dreams. The novel is set in California during the Great Depression of the 1930’s.
People say that loneliness is when you’re literally alone, but I don’t think that that’s true, because sometimes, no matter how many people are around you, you can still feel like you’re alone. This is probably worse than actually being all alone because then you have to see all the people around you, happy and smiling, and wonder why they can’t be lonely and sad, why it has to be you that’s all alone (although if you look a little deeper you’ll probably find that most people aren’t as happy as they seem to be).
