Corporal punishment is synonymous with “physical punishment” and according to Block (2007), ``it means the intentional infliction of pain on the body for the purposes of punishment or controlling behaviour. It includes slapping, spanking, hitting with objects, pinching, shaking, and forcing it to stand for long periods of time.`` Even though there is already a Canadian law that considers appropriate corporal punishment as a legal way to discipline a child given that they do not exceed the border line that distinguishes it as abusive and as long as it is for educational purposes, corporal punishment should still be made completely illegal because it ineffective and trains a child to use violence or instils the notion that it is right to use force against the weak, it creates fear in the child and it can easily escalate to abuse.
