Human Rights Human rights can be dated way back into the 6th century B.C. of the Persian Empire under the reign of Cyrus the Great who issued the Cyrus Cylinder after his conquest of Babylon in 539 B.C. The Cyrus Cylinder was then discovered in 1879 and was recognize around the world as the first human rights document. This first human rights document declared that citizens of the Empire to practice their religious beliefs freely as they please and abolish slavery so slaves became paid workers instead. These two policies of the Cyrus Cylinder can be seen as reflections in the biblical books of Chronicles and Ezra where it can be clearly seen that Cyrus recognize the significance of human life and release the followers of Judaism from slavery and allowed them to migrate to their home land. Then human rights then further develop into the principles of civil rights which can be seen in the Mauryan Empire in the 3rd century B.C.
