Perhaps one of the most profound movements in American society began with the promise between two sisters. In 1982, Susan G. Komen began The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation as an attempt to build awareness about breast cancer, which her sister Nancy Goodman Brinker fell to at age 36. According to Susan�s breast cancer website, in the early 1980�s, little was known about breast cancer and even less was spoken about the disease. Since the birth of the breast cancer organization, the last twenty years of Komen�s foundation has fought �to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by funding research grants and supporting education, screening and treatment projects in communities around the world.� Komen�s foundation stretches into communities across the world, and is responsible for aiding the fight against breast cancer with hundreds of millions of dollars to help research and raise awareness.
