During the late 1980�s and early 1990�s communism fell in the Balkan region. Communism collapsed in the USSR and havoc arose. After the collapse of the communist countries, all the different religious groups wanted their own country to live in. They wanted a place to stay where there would be no religious persecution. The problem arose with the fact that there were more than one race and religion living in the Bosnian capital, Sarajevo. Every religion wanted Sarajevo for them but wanted the other ethnicities to leave. This caused war to break out between them and the Bosnian war was the result. The movie, the war journal, and the diary all gave me some incite on the devastating situation and harsh lifestyle for civilians during the war. The diary by Zlata Filipove called Zlatas Diary: A Child�s Life in Sarajevo was very moving and informative. She is a little girl forced into adulthood when the Bosnian War breaks out.
