Around the turn of the century, a man by the name of Darwin cam up with a theory while studying finches on islands in the Pacific. He noticed how the same species changed to adapt to its environment on different islands. He called what he witnessed Evolution. Throughout the 20th century this theory was proven again and again through studies and experiments. Creationists, or those that believe in philosophical perspective that presupposes the existence of a supernatural creator, slowly felt their power wean. People had found a way to explain where man had come from that didn’t conform to their set of beliefs, with science and not religion. Creationism was slowly weeded out of school science classes. By the 90s very few schools even taught Creationism. With the presumable loss of the bible’s hold on the teaching of science in American classrooms conservatives needed a new way to get their religion back.
