The Childhood of American Blood Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

A person's childhood is something that cannot be forgotten. From grandparents telling their grandchildren about when they were their age to criminals pleading that their childhood caused them to become evil, the first years are the most important. An American Childhood, by Annie Dillard, is a happy memoir of Annie's own life, a child of a well-to-do Pittsburgh family. Dillard remembers much of her childhood and doesn't hesitate to tell readers a bit of it. Author Flannery O'Conner once said, "Any novelist who could survive his/her childhood had enough to write about for a lifetime." This was most certainly the case for Dillard. This is in contrast to Truman Capote’s novel, In Cold Blood. In this nonfiction novel its not Capote’s childhood that is remembered but rather Perry Smith’s, a cold blooded murderer in the novel. There are many prominent themes in the works In Cold Blood and An American Childhood that cover a wide spectrum of topics.
