The purpose of my paper is to address concerns regarding Corruption in the Public Sector within the United States. Public Corruption can be defined as an occurrence in which an individual abuses his authority for personal gain at the expense of others. It involves a breach of the public’s trust and abuse of authority by federal, state, or local officials and their private sector accomplices. Corruption brings injustice, dishonesty and seriously puts the lives and properties of the community at stake. In fact, corruption costs taxpayers hundred of millions of dollars each year and is on a constant rise. All public sector organizations are likely to be affected in some way by fraudulent and corrupt activities. Corruption in the public sector threatens everyone because it weakens democratic institutions, encourages organized crime, and undermines public services. . In light of all the recent scandals that have engulfed many institutions in the United States, one lesson has been drawn clearly; loose standards, secretiveness and the lack of accountability are a recipe for disaster......
