The standard for American schools has noticeably declined over the years. It has dramatically fallen behind the standards of other countries. Instead of encouraging students to try their best and pushing them to their limits, schools have accepted mediocre efforts and students that are just getting by. American schools no longer have fixed standards for all students. As long as schools keep dropping the standard, more and more people will be able to meet it. As Jesness points out, �Keep dropping the standard, and sooner or later everyone will meet it.� (4) There will be no need for exceptional skills in any subject because the basics will be good enough. We need to find a way to change the methods we use to teach students so that we can again be ahead of other countries when it comes to education.
