Barack Obama is a Candidate for Presidency On February 10, 2007, Senator Barack Obama told the American people that he would run as a Democratic candidate for the 2008 Presidential election. The public perception of Obama so far has been positive and his support has been steadily rising; Oprah Winfrey also supported the Senator on her television talk show. In many opinion polls Obama is led only by Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and if Obama were to win the election, he would become the first African-American president. I will be comparing articles from the Los Angeles Times and the San Diego Union-Tribune about the announcement that Senator Barack Obama gave a crowd of approximately 15,000 in Springfield, Illinois about his candidacy. As I read the Los Angeles Times article, �It's Official: Obama is Running for President� by Mark Z. Barabak, the feeling of recognition and congrats befell me.
